In the first episode of this Arithmetic Series, we begin by imagining a world without numbers. Unlike traditional mathematics courses that start with formulas and rules, this series teaches arithmetic through the lens of history. Instead of memorizing concepts, we explore why they were invented, who needed them, and how they evolved over thousands of years. In this episode, we explore: • Why numbers are essential to human civilization. • What the world would look like without numbers. • How early humans first started counting. • The role of shepherds, trade, and agriculture in the development of numbers. • The earliest number systems created by ancient civilizations. • How those ancient ideas eventually evolved into the number system we use today.
