Does photography always have to lead somewhere? It can feel like everything we do with photography needs a destination. Build a portfolio. Grow an Instagram account. Sell prints. Find clients. Develop a recognizable style. Turn it into a business. But what if photography doesn’t have to become anything? In this video, I talk about the pressure photographers can put on themselves to constantly improve, grow an audience, monetize their work, or turn photography into something measurable. There’s nothing wrong with having goals or ambition, but those things don’t have to be the reason we pick up a camera. Sometimes photography can simply be about paying attention. Going for a walk. Exploring a new place. Experimenting with light. Making photographs that may never be posted, printed, sold, or even shown to anyone else.
