Why Did Kings Live in This Ordinary English Village?

Kings Langley looks like an ordinary English village, but medieval kings once lived, governed and built a royal palace here. In this narrated POV exploration, I walk through Kings Langley in Hertfordshire to discover why this quiet village became an important royal residence and what remains of that extraordinary history today. Starting on the village High Street, I explore All Saints Church, Langley Hill, Corte Gate and The Drift while searching for traces of the vanished Kings Langley Palace and its neighbouring priory. The palace was associated with several Plantagenet rulers, while Edmund of Langley, son of Edward III and founder of the House of York, was born here. His historic tomb now survives inside All Saints Church. The palace itself has almost completely disappeared, leaving an unusual contrast: an apparently ordinary modern village with royal history hidden beneath its streets, buildings and surrounding landscape.
