Python OOP Inheritance Project | Build a Learning Platform
In this video, we build a small Learning Platform using Python Object-Oriented Programming and inheritance.
The project demonstrates how a common parent User class can provide shared properties and functionality while Student, Mentor, and Admin classes extend the parent class with their own role-specific features.
We will also demonstrate method overriding, where child classes provide their own implementation of a method inherited from the parent class.
PROJECT STRUCTURE
User

+---- Student
|
+---- Mentor
|
+---- Admin
USER CLASS
The User class acts as the parent class and contains common properties such as:
User ID
Name
Email
Role
These properties are shared by Student, Mentor, and Admin.
STUDENT CLASS
Student inherits from User and can contain features such as:
Course enrollment
Assignment submission
Progress tracking
Student details
MENTOR CLASS
Mentor inherits from User and can contain features such as:
Expertise
Course management
Student assignment
Viewing assigned students
ADMIN CLASS
Admin inherits from User and can contain features such as:
User management
Course management
Access control
Reports
KEY OOP CONCEPTS COVERED
Classes
Objects
Constructors
init
Parent class
Child classes
Inheritance
Instance variables
Instance methods
Method overriding
Code reusability
Role-based design
Multiple objects
Real-world OOP modeling
METHOD OVERRIDING
The User class can define a common method such as:
show_details()
The Student, Mentor, and Admin classes can override this method and provide their own implementation.
For example:
User → General User Details
Student → Student Details
Mentor → Mentor Details
Admin → Admin Details
This demonstrates how the same method name can behave differently depending on the object.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
A real learning platform has different types of users.
Students enroll in courses and submit assignments.
Mentors manage courses and support students.
Administrators manage users, courses, and platform-level operations.
Although these users have different responsibilities, they share common information such as name, email, and user ID.
Inheritance allows us to place common functionality inside the User class and extend it through Student, Mentor, and Admin.

WHY THIS PROJECT IS IMPORTANT
This project shows how inheritance can be used to design applications with multiple user roles.
Instead of duplicating common code across Student, Mentor, and Admin, we create a reusable User parent class and extend it when necessary.
The design becomes easier to understand, maintain, and expand.
WHAT YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND AFTER THIS VIDEO
By the end of this project, you should understand:
What is a parent class?
What is a child class?
What is inheritance?
Why do we use inheritance?
What is method overriding?
How do child classes customize parent methods?
How can multiple child classes share common functionality?
How can OOP represent different user roles?
How can inheritance reduce code duplication?
