“Then Came Bronson,” a TV series that ran on NBC fall of 1969 to spring of 1970, Michael Parks who portrayed the main character, Jim Bronson.
In that series, Jim Bronson, took us all over the west coast and southwest of the U.S. aboard a 1968 Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster. The Sportster was a magnificent motorcycle, a blend of sleek design and power that transformed it into a street speed racer that everyone coveted.
AMF: American Machine and Foundry bought Harley-Davidson in 1969, saving the company from bankruptcy. The decade following the purchase became known as the “AMF years” and was one of the worst times in the company's history.
American Machine and Foundry AMF operated the company until 1981 at which time Vaughn Beals, “Willie G.” Davidson and a group investors purchased the company back from AMF for $80 million.
1969 Sportster History:
Harley Davidson has a habit of producing a variety of motorcycle choices for serious riders who are particular about their rides and demand certain specifications in their bikes. While for some, this may seem a daunting task, the American giant in the motorcycle manufacturing industry has had no problem designing rider specific units aimed at pleasing, it seems, just about everyone. The Sportster XLH is one such model that reaches out to a certain kind of rider. The 1969 is one of the most significant machines in the history of the line and of the brand and those who are fortunate enough to claim ownership have something that a lot of others would like to get their hands on.
