Audi began the new millenium with a flourish, taking on the American Le Mans Series heavyweights of BMW and Panoz with a new car and an ambitious programme centred around victory at Le Mans. The saying went that if a car could survive 12 hours at Sebring, it would have no trouble at la Sarthe - would the R8s last the distance in Florida?
