2027 Honda CRF1150L Africa Twin Review — More Power, More Control, More Adventure
Honda’s Africa Twin has always been built for riders who want to go farther than the pavement allows. For 2027, it returns with a larger engine, a revised chassis, and a major technology upgrade. But do these changes make Honda’s flagship adventure bike more capable on the road—and more confident when the trail gets rough? Let’s take a closer look.
The new 1,131cc parallel-twin produces 117 horsepower and 88 pound-feet of torque. That’s a meaningful increase, supported by revised intake components, larger throttle bodies, higher compression, and updated engine internals. Honda says the changes improve acceleration and roll-on response, while revised gearing helps keep highway cruising relaxed.
Riders can choose a six-speed manual or Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission. The updated electronics package adds six riding modes: Sport, Touring, Urban, Rain, Off-Road, and Off-Road Plus. Throttle response, engine braking, traction control, and wheelie control can be tailored to suit the conditions.
The chassis has been reworked around a lower center of gravity, with a lighter steel frame and aluminum swingarm. Standard Showa electronically controlled suspension now includes Honda Skyhook Control, adjusting damping in real time to improve comfort and stability. A new minimum setting can also lower seat height by 10 millimeters.
Off-road hardware remains a key part of the package. The Africa Twin keeps its 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels, tubeless tires, and long-travel suspension. Dual 310-millimeter front discs provide braking, while the revised riding modes help riders manage traction across changing terrain.
Touring comfort gets attention, too. The bike features a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a separate vehicle information display, cruise control, heated grips, and a new electric windscreen. A revised seat and updated riding position aim to make long days in the saddle more comfortable.
The 2027 Africa Twin is more than a power upgrade. It’s a broader refinement of performance, control, and everyday usability—while keeping its adventurous character intact.
