Managed by George Radford Sr., the band developed a distinctive image and a powerful sound built around Vox equipment. Their first release, “Acid Head”, caused unexpected controversy when radio stations misunderstood its anti-drug message and banned it, giving the young band an early dose of notoriety. In June 1967, The Velvet Illusions headed to Los Angeles in the middle of the Summer of Love, recording, performing and chasing the dream of national success. Their sessions included work at Sunset Sound, while their rare singles would later become coveted artifacts of 60s psychedelic garage. Their remarkable story also includes failed management deals, mysterious record credits, a planned Japanese tour, a bizarre Bigfoot connection and a young Roland Bautista — later of Earth, Wind & Fire — guesting on fuzz guitar on a couple of tracks. *Includes insert with detailed liner notes and photos Compiled and released by Guerssen Records.
