Episode # 5720 TIME FOR DECISION Original airdate: 3-23-58 In this episode Loretta Young portrays Ruth Price, an over-protective older sister who dedicates her life to trying to solve the emotional problems of her confused kid sister, Ellen, (played by Luana Anders) until she realizes that she cannot do the job alone. Only when she accepts professional help does the future look brighter for both sisters. The episode is directed by and co-stars John Newland, one of Miss Young's favorite collaborators. Newland began his career in vaudeville while still in his teens. After moving to New York City to study acting, he signed with Warner Bros Studios. By the early 1950s, he began to focus solely on television roles, appearing in several episodes of Studio One, The Philco Television Playhouse, Tales of Tomorrow, Kraft Television Theatre, Schlitz Playhouse of Stars and this series. But he was best known as the host and director of the paranormal television series One Step Beyond. The series ended its run in 1961 and Newland later hosted its short-lived counterpart The Next Step Beyond in 1978. Newland died on January 10, 2000 of a stroke in Los Angeles. Luana Anders began her career appearing in several supporting roles in movies for American International Pictures, quite a few of them directed by Roger Corman. She was part of a group of well-known actors who met in the acting class of actor Jeff Corey. Fellow thespians included Jack Nicholson, Sally Kellerman, Robert Towne and eventually Corman, who cast his early films directly out of the class which he also attended. Anders was a lifelong Buddhist who died of breast cancer in 1996, aged 58. Trivia fact: Joe Hamilton, playing the part of the Landlord, was best known as a television producer and actor who married Carol Burnett on May 4, 1963, and produced her popular variety series on CBS for many years. He died on June 9, 1991 at age 62 of cancer. He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Los Angeles, the same cemetery where Miss Young was buried in 2000. .Directed by John Newland Written by Esther McCoy.
