Episode # 5718 THE ORIENTAL MIND Original airdate: 3-09-58 At the beginning of this episode Loretta Young poses the question; "We know what we think of the 'Oriental"... but have you ever thought about what the 'Oriental' thinks of us, the 'Occidental' ? In this story, a Korean orphan played by 14 year old George Matsui “adopts” an American couple during their temporary stay in his country. But, just as the couple prepare to leave the country, the friendship between the Korean waif and the American couple is almost severed through a series of silly misunderstandings. Loretta Young stars with Kim Spaulding in this story adapted from a story by P. C. Tullier in the New Yorker Magazine. Kim Spaulding appeared on television and in film between 1950 and 1961. His first role was as an uncredited clerk in the 1950 film The Gunfighter, starring Gregory Peck as Jimmy Ringo. From 1950-1953, Spalding appeared in different roles in the western television series, The Lone Ranger. In 1953, he appeared as a character named Johnny in the episode "The Rebel" of Rod Cameron's syndicated series, City Detective. Spalding's final television appearance was opposite Bonita Granville in the episode "The Valley of the Blue Mountain" of the anthology series, The Best of the Post, based on articles from the magazine, The Saturday Evening Post. He died on November 18, 2000 at age 84 in Los Angeles. Young George Matsui was born on August 27, 1943 in Japan as Harushi George Matsui. He was an actor and director known for Fanny Hill Meets Lady Chatterly (1967), The Time Tunnel (1966) and I Spy (1965). He died peacefully on July 22, 2009 at his home in Bellevue, Washington.
