Zimbabwe Holiday 1986 (4) Melsetter

Pork Pie Mountain. I climbed that as an 11 year old. Nearly got lost in the mist. A truly stunning place. -- Bridal Veil Falls. I recall the immaculately kept picnic area, the very smartly dressed National Parks officer, the spotless toilet, no entrance charges, just pure magic. I tried to climb up the falls but gave up a third of the way with serious nettle stings. -- Birchenough Bridge was completed in 1935. At a length of 1080 feet (329 m) it was the third longest single-arch suspension bridge in the world at the time. Ralph Freeman, the bridge's designer, was also the structural designer on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and consequently the two bridges bear a close resemblance. Note the sleeping soldier...
