It is because the mind always indulges in the gross and subtle aspects of the world. The body is based upon the 24 Principles. Five Karmendriyas (organs of action), five Jnanendriyas (organs of knowledge), five Pranas (life breaths), five Koshas (sheaths). And Manas (mind), Buddhi (intellect), Chitta (subconscious mind), and Ahamkara (ego). Thus, the body consists of these 24 Principles. Therefore, this body indeed carries a great responsibility. The subtle mind (Sukshma Shareera) is composed of the 14 Principles. Five senses (Jnanendriyas), five life breaths (Pranas), Manas, Buddhi, Chitta, and Ahamkara. So the mind consists of these 14 Principles. So the mind is not associated with the 5 organs of action or the 5 life sheaths. The conglomeration of thoughts has been described as the mind. For a Karana Deha (causal body), there are only Vasanas (tendencies) associated with it. Here, only two principles are present: they are the mind and intellect. The rest of Karmendriyas, Jnanendriyas, Pancha Pranas, Pancha Koshas, Chitta, and Ahamkara are not present. When mind comes in contact with intellect, they become, in fact, one. This Mahakarana Tattva does not have any attributes whatsoever. It is described as Nirgunam (attributeless), Niranjanam (unsullied), Sanatana (Eternal), Niketanam (the ultimate abode), Nithya (everlasting), Shuddha (pure), Buddha (ultimate wisdom), Mukta (liberated), and Nirmala Swarupinam (embodiment of purity). It has no Chaitanya. It is spread everywhere. It is the Atman, Parabrahman. Paramatma. It can be called by any name. It (Atman) has manifested itself into 4 forms described as Sthula (gross), Sukshma (subtle body), Karana (causal), and Mahakarana (attributeless Atman). The gross body is associated with the senses. Subtle body is associated with thoughts. The causal body is associated with tendencies. Mahakarana is one that does not have any qualities whatsoever. As you go on from one form of body to another, from gross to the Mahakarana, the number of attributes go on reducing from 24 to 14 to 2 and then to zero. As the use of senses and the feelings go on increasing, bondage also proportionately increases. Therefore, the path prescribed to restrain the mind is meditation. When one practices meditation without multiplying desires, and attains one-pointed concentration, this wavering and fragmented mind becomes united with the Divine. So long as you go on increasing your thoughts and your desires, there will be only sorrow and misery, and humans will not have any happiness. The wind has been described as going at a very high speed. Mind goes faster than the wind. It is said to circle all the 3 realms in just one moment. It is very powerful. Mind can reach a place faster than sound, faster than light. If you want to exercise control over such a fast moving mind, there is only one way. There is no second way at all. There was one British scientist, Edgington. He conducted a number of experiments and after conducting all these experiments he wrote in his diary one particular sentence. He wrote, “The entire Universe is a thought of God.” He declared that the entire universe has emerged from the thought of God. God’s will (Sankalpa). It is impossible for anyone to know this. We are only trying to understand this universe because of our foolishness. That scientist came to a very clear conclusion that only the Creator would be able to correctly understand the universe. And none else. It is said that, “Hari alone can understand all His miracles and all His Leelas.” Only when humans recognise this truth, can they stop their crooked thinking. As long as humans suffer from the burden of the ego, they would not be able to experience joy.
