Aachen, Reiselust im Juni, Teil 2 - 06. - 07.06.2026 -

Dies ist nun der 2. Teil meiner Kurzreise ins Dreiländereck vom 04.-07. Juni 2026. Am 3. Reisetag stand ein Besuch der Stadt Maastricht (NL) auf dem Programm. Maastricht liegt im äußersten Südosten der Niederlande zwischen Belgien und Deutschland, an beiden Seiten der Maas. Es grenzt sowohl an das gleichsprachige Flandern als auch an die belgische Wallonie. Bereits etwa 500 v. Chr. gab es im heutigen Stadtgebiet von Maastricht eine keltische Ansiedlung an einer Furt über die Maas.[13] Ich muss sagen, dass ich mich spontan in diese wunderschöne, lebhafte Stadt verliebt habe. Ein geführter Rundgang durch die Altstadt gewährte sowohl tiefe Einblick in die Historie als auch in das Heute. Quirrlig ist sie, diese Stadt auf der einen Seite, auf der anderen gemütlich und sehr liebenswert. Das habe ich versucht, im Video festzuhalten. Auf dem Rückweg nach Aachen gab es noch einen kurzen Aufenthalt in Monschau an der Rur, in der Eifel nahe der belgischen Grenze gelegen. Die Stadt ist für ihr mittelalterliches Zentrum mit Fachwerkhäusern und engen Kopfsteinpflasterstraßen bekannt. Eine geführter Rundgang durch die kopfsteingepflasterte Altstadt führte entlang der Rur und gewährte Einblicke in pittoreske Winkel und auf schieferverkleidete Häuser, Fachwerkbauten mit Cafés, Gaststätten oder Kunsthandwerks- und Souvenirläden. Am Abreisetag, 07.06.26, gab es auf der Heimreise noch einen kurzen Aufenthalt in Koblenz. Eine Reisegefährtin zeigte mir das Deutsche Eck mit der mächtigen Statue Kaiser Wilhelm I. am Zusammenfluss von Mosel und Rhein. Zu Zweit machten wir dann noch eine kurze Rundfahrt mit dem dortigen Altstadt-Express. Für mehr reichte die Zeit leider nicht, aber es war ein schöner Abschluss dieser kurzen Reise ins Drei-Länder-Eck. English text: This is now the second part of my short trip to the Three Countries Corner from 4 to 7 June 2026. On the third day of the trip, a visit to the city of Maastricht (NL) was on programme. Maastricht lies in the far south-east of the Netherlands, between Belgium and Germany, on both sides of the Meuse. It borders both the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders and the Belgian region of Wallonia. As early as around 500 BC, there was a Celtic settlement in what is now the city of Maastricht, situated at a ford across the Meuse. [13] I must say that I fell in love with this beautiful, lively city at first sight. A guided tour of the old town provided a deep insight into both its history and its present-day life. On the one hand, this city is bustling; on the other, it is cosy and very charming. I tried to capture that in the video. On the way back to Aachen, we made a brief stop in Monschau on the River Rur, situated in the Eifel region near the Belgian border. The town is known for its medieval centre with half-timbered houses and narrow cobbled streets. A guided tour of the cobbled old town took us along the River Rur, offering glimpses of picturesque corners and slate-clad houses, half-timbered buildings housing cafés, restaurants and arts and crafts and souvenir shops. On the day of departure, 7 June 26, we made another brief stop in Koblenz on the journey home. A travelling companion showed me the Deutsches Eck, with its imposing statue of Emperor Wilhelm I, at the confluence of the Moselle and the Rhine. Together, we then took a short tour on the Old Town Express. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for anything else, but it was a lovely way to round off this short trip to the Three-Country Corner.
