Ride Pipe Dream Trail from east to west in immersive 4K POV, following 5.35 miles of rugged, technical singletrack along the foothills overlooking Moab Valley.
Pipe Dream is an advanced mountain bike trail featuring rough dirt singletrack, abundant embedded rocks, tight switchbacks, punchy climbs, and steep side-hill exposure. Although the route generally trends downhill in this direction, frequent climbs and descents make it a surprisingly strenuous ride.

Trail Character & Difficulty
Pipe Dream is a physically demanding trail that rewards technical riding skills, careful line selection, and endurance. Embedded rocks make much of the route rough and bumpy, while tight switchbacks and steep, rocky climbs test a rider's ability to maintain momentum.
The trail traverses a steep hillside beneath towering sandstone cliffs, weaving in and out of gullies and drainages. Many sections have significant exposure, with steep drop-offs immediately beside the narrow singletrack. A few sections are particularly consequential, so exercise caution and ride within your abilities.
Compared with other advanced Moab trails I've ridden, such as Slickrock and Sovereign Singletrack, I find Pipe Dream somewhat less demanding overall because of its shorter distance and generally downhill direction. Nevertheless, the technical challenges are nearly constant.
One of Pipe Dream's interesting challenges is attempting to complete the entire trail without putting a foot down. I've ridden it multiple times and still haven't accomplished that feat!
Scenery & Best Time to Ride
Pipe Dream offers spectacular views across Moab Valley, with the red rock cliffs towering above and the La Sal Mountains visible to the east.
I particularly enjoy riding this trail during fall afternoons and evenings. Sunset brings beautiful alpenglow to the surrounding sandstone and mountains, while cooler temperatures make the experience especially enjoyable.
Spring and fall are ideal riding seasons. During summer, early mornings offer cooler temperatures and the opportunity to catch the sunrise.
Access & Route Logistics
The ride begins at Hidden Valley Trailhead in Moab. Access is paved except for approximately the final quarter-mile of gravel road. Parking is free, and a pit toilet is available.
For riders completing the east-to-west route, there are several ways to return to the starting area.
My favorite is to use the Mill Creek greenway bike route, then connect back toward the east end of Pipe Dream using local streets and the two-track near the University of Utah Moab extension area. Check a current map for the exact connections.
Other options include arranging a shuttle or returning along the power-line two-track, which includes some steep sections.
Rider Recommendations
Pipe Dream is best suited to confident intermediate riders progressing toward advanced terrain and experienced riders looking for a technical workout close to downtown Moab.
Beginners may find the persistent rocks, climbing challenges, and exposed hillside intimidating. Fortunately, several access and exit points provide opportunities to shorten the ride.
The trail is shared with hikers, runners, and other users. Ride respectfully, control your speed, and yield to pedestrians.
Most important advice: Respect the exposure. If a section feels beyond your abilities, trust your judgment and walk it.
For riders seeking an advanced-level challenge, rewarding scenery, and a substantial workout without driving far from town, Pipe Dream is an excellent option.
