Kelton Harbour and Village, River Nith, Dumfries

Robert Burns has a link with this small village on the River Nith as the brig he helped capture from smugglers, the 'Rosamond' was re-floated and brought here to the 'harbour' where it and its contents were auctioned. A settlement has been here since at least the 16th century and at one time it had an excise station, a smithy, a tavern, a small shipyard and two saw mills. Haff netting is still carried out and a monument nearby celebrates the first piper to the monarch, Angus Mackay, who drowned here.
