A mentally ill man who created panic with aggressive behaviour in public places was rescued and admitted to the District Government Hospital in Ajjarkad, Udupi, on Thursday with the help of social workers and the public. The unidentified man, who introduced himself only as "Chotu" and speaks Hindi, is currently receiving treatment in the Psychiatry Department. Authorities believe that his relatives may be residing in or around Udupi and have appealed to them to contact the District Hospital immediately. The rescue operation was led by social worker Nityananda Olakadu with support from Krishnamurthy Acharya Kinnimulki, local residents, and the police.
