Footage obtained through Florida public records law and provided by the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO). This video reflects the footage as released and does not represent an official statement from the department.
On April 17, 2025, BSO's Burglary Apprehension Team received information about a black 2025 Ford Escape reported stolen out of Boca Raton. According to the arrest affidavit, detectives located the vehicle in Deerfield Beach and followed it into Pompano Beach, where it entered a McDonald's drive-thru and detectives moved in to conduct a takedown. The driver, 23, was charged with grand theft auto and unlawful possession of personal identification of another (5 or more). Prosecutors did not file the identification charge.
Per the affidavit, the driver told detectives he found the SUV unlocked with the keys inside. Lock your car.
As of September 2026, Broward County court records show the driver pleaded no contest to grand theft auto in August 2025. Adjudication was withheld, and he was sentenced to 18 months of probation. He later admitted a probation violation; the court reinstated probation with jail time, and probation was terminated in February 2026. Source: Broward County Clerk of Courts.
