The Narmada River empties into the Arabian Sea through the Gulf of Khambhat (also known as the Gulf of Cambay). The mouth is located near the city of Bharuch in the state of Gujarat, India. Key Features of the River Mouth Estuary Formation: Unlike many large Indian rivers, the Narmada does not form a delta. Instead, it forms a deep estuary because it flows through a rocky rift valley with a high gradient, which prevents the accumulation of silt. Width: The estuary reaches a maximum width of approximately 21 km (13 miles) where it meets the gulf. Islands: Several islands are located within the estuary, with Aliabet being the largest. Tidal Influence: Tides are felt up to 32 km upstream from Bharuch. Religious Significance: The mouth is a critical point for the Narmada Parikrama, a sacred pilgrimage where devotees circumambulate the entire river from source to sea and back. Significant temples like the Vimleshwar Mahadev Temple are located at the point where the river merges with the sea
