Jackie Gleason took up golf late, moved his whole TV show to Florida to play every day, and ran a PGA Tour event with the biggest purse in golf.
Nine years later his name came off it. Today the course it was played on is closed.
From "Hello, ball" on The Honeymooners to Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic, this is the story of the Great One's golf tournament: the 1964 train to Miami Beach, Glea Manor on the fairway at Inverrary, Nicklaus, Palmer, Trevino and Bob Hope at the pro-am, the 1976 Tournament Players Championship, the car company that took the title in 1981, the Phar-Mor twist, and the neighborhood in Lauderhill that is now voting on whether golf will ever come back.
