In one controlled study, healthy volunteers drank a measured dose of green tea catechins, and within about an hour the main catechin, EGCG, appeared in their bloodstream while markers of oxidative stress in their blood shifted. One dose, from a leaf already in your kitchen. In this video, we break down the real biology behind green tea and your cells: What EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) is and how much a brewed cup can contain How free radicals leak from your mitochondria, and how EGCG can neutralize some of them directly How EGCG interacts with the Nrf2 pathway, which switches on your cells’ own protective enzymes How caffeine and EGCG work together on norepinephrine and the COMT enzyme (and why the real-world weight effect is small) Why heat, neutral pH, milk and added sugar change how much EGCG reaches you How lemon (vitamin C) can help keep catechins stable and absorbable Why many bottled green teas contain far less EGCG than a properly brewed cup Why concentrated green tea extracts are a different matter from a cup of tea You’ll also get a simple 3-step method: brew at about 70 to 80 degrees Celsius for 3 to 5 minutes, add lemon and skip the sugar, and drink it steadily at a realistic amount. This is real, peer-reviewed science, citing research from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Purdue University. Effects are small, results vary between people, and green tea is not a treatment for any disease. ⚠️ Green tea contains caffeine. Concentrated green tea extracts have been linked to rare cases of liver injury, so skip them unless your doctor says otherwise, especially if you have liver problems, are pregnant, or take medication. Tea can also reduce iron absorption.
