Join me for this 45 minute Yin practice focusing on the lower body (think hips, glues, IT bands and lower back). For this practice we will use 2 blocks and a bolster, but these can be substituted for books and pillows if you don't have these at home, or can be completely omitted. Yin yoga is a slow and gentle style of yoga where you hold passive floor postures for long periods of time, typically between 3 to 5 minutes. Instead of targeting superficial muscles like active "yang" yoga styles (such as Vinyasa or Ashtanga), Yin yoga targets deep connective tissues, including fascia, ligaments, tendons and joints. This long tension over time increases flexibility and ROM and can be extremely calming and meditative for the mind and nervous system. Whether you are practising in the morning or before bed, this is a lovely practice to slow down, soften and create a little more space in the body. Come as you are, find somewhere comfortable to practise and allow yourself to simply be here for the next 45 minutes. No previous Yin yoga experience is required, just yourself and the willingness to slow down. Take your time, listen to your body and remember that Yin is more about finding an appropriate edge, settling in and giving yourself permission to stay rather than pushing deeper. I hope you enjoy the practice. Subscribe and check out my other videos for more like this.
