🖍️ Printable kids' activity pack for Redwood (maze, scavenger hunt, bingo, coloring): https://www.etsy.com/listing/4601168098 (Made by our family. Unofficial, not affiliated with the National Park Service.) Join our family of five on a magical hike through the ancient redwoods of Redwood National and State Parks in Northern California, exploring two iconic trails: the Grove of Titans Trail (often called Titan Trail) and the Stout Memorial Grove Trail in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Feel wonderfully small among some of the world’s tallest trees, with towering coast redwoods over 300 feet high, lush fern-covered floors, and peaceful forest paths that transport you to another world. This family-friendly adventure highlights easy to moderate hiking, massive old-growth groves, scenic loops through dense woodlands, and quiet moments soaking in the fresh air and birdsong—perfect for a road trip from your home or beyond. In this video, we share our journey starting with the Grove of Titans, walking the elevated boardwalk to view giants like the Screaming Titans and El Viejo del Norte, then heading to the Stout Memorial Grove for its serene loop along the Smith River edge. Watch for tips on navigating dirt roads, spotting wildlife, and making it a memorable family outing. Practical Details (for both trails in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park): • Grove of Titans Trail: 1.5-1.8 miles round-trip loop, easy to moderate; elevation gain about 100-230 feet with some uphill at the start and stairs. • Stout Memorial Grove Trail: 0.5-0.75 mile loop, easy; minimal elevation (32-50 feet), mostly flat with gentle grades. • Time: 30-60 minutes per trail; allow 2-3 hours total including travel between them. • Trail Access: Both off Howland Hill Road (unpaved, narrow dirt road—drive slowly, no RVs/trailers; about 6 miles from US-101). Park at Mill Creek Trailhead for Titans or Stout Grove parking for Stout. • Park Fees: $8 per vehicle for day use (cash/credit at kiosk); free with California State Parks pass; camping $35/night (reservations via ReserveCalifornia). • What to Bring: Sturdy shoes (trails can be muddy), water, snacks, insect repellent, layers (cool and shady even in summer), binoculars for wildlife/birds, and a camera for the awe-inspiring trees. • Pets: No dogs allowed on trails (leashed in campgrounds only). • Best Time: Summer for dry paths and swimmers at Smith River (near Stout); spring for wildflowers; fall for fewer crowds; avoid winter rain/mud. Check weather—foggy mornings common. • Tips: Trails are close (about 2 miles apart); combine for a half-day adventure. No facilities at trailheads—use restrooms at Jedediah Smith Campground. Stay on paths to protect roots; boardwalks in Titans help preserve the grove.
