FORD JUST DROPPED A BOMBSHELL: $28,350 ELECTRIC TRUCK WITH NEW ENGINE WILL SHAKE THE EV INDUSTRY!
On October 27, 2026, Ford revealed that its upcoming Fathom electric pickup is designed to power your home. Ford says it will be the first EV from a US automaker priced below $30,000 that can deliver more than 10 kW of AC power to a house without a separate wall-mounted inverter. The Fathom starts at $28,350 ($29,945 with destination). It is the first vehicle on Ford's new Universal EV Platform, built in Louisville, Kentucky, with LFP batteries from Michigan.
We go back to the 1908 Model T and the 1913 moving assembly line, then to the rise and fall of the all-electric F-150 Lightning and Ford's $19.5 billion EV reset in December 2025. We look at why Jim Farley called China "the most humbling thing" he has ever seen, and how a skunkworks team full of ex-Tesla, Rivian and Lucid engineers built a new platform with 20% fewer parts and a three-branch "assembly tree". Then we break down the Fathom's in-house electric motors, its E-box with a built-in bidirectional inverter, and what Home Power Management and Home Backup Power could mean during a blackout.
What you'll learn:
How the F-150 Lightning went from 200,000 reservations to the end of production
Why Ford lost $4.7B, $5.1B and $4.8B on EVs in 2023, 2024 and 2025
The Universal EV Platform: 20% fewer parts, 25% fewer fasteners, 40% fewer workstations
The "assembly tree" explained, and why Ford calls it a Model T moment
The new engine: in-house permanent magnet and induction motors, smaller LFP battery
The E-box: how the Fathom can power your house without a wall inverter
Fathom price, size, NACS port, CarPlay, BlueCruise hardware and timeline
The honest case against: no official range, extra hardware cost, 2027 deliveries, cold weather
The 1908 comparison that explains what Ford is really trying to do
Note: This video is for educational and informational purposes only. Fathom pricing, features, home power capability, hardware cost reductions and platform figures (parts, fasteners, workstations, assembly speed, wiring) are Ford's own claims as reported by Electrek, InsideEVs, Drive Tesla Canada and other outlets. They are not independent test results. Ford has not released official range, battery size, towing or home-hardware prices. The ~51 kWh battery figure is an InsideEVs estimate, and the home-energy examples in the video are illustrations, not Ford figures. Home power features require extra Ford hardware and installation. Model T inflation figures vary by method. Information is based on public reporting and company statements as of October 28, 2026.
