One of the core assumptions underneath much of modern thinking about gender is that the "real you" is something separate from your body, an inner self that your physical form may or may not accurately reflect. It's an idea that feels compassionate and freeing to many people. But it raises a question worth sitting with: is that actually true? And more importantly, what does Scripture say? In this message, we go back to the very first pages of the Bible, where sexed embodiment isn't an afterthought or a cultural construct. It's already there, woven into what it means to be human. The consistent biblical picture is that the body is not a mistake, a shell, or raw material to be corrected. It is part of what God declared "very good" and part of what He intentionally knit together. But here is something this message is careful to say clearly: affirming that the body isn't a mistake is not the same as dismissing the distress someone feels as unreal. The pain is real. And Jesus, in Mark 5, shows us exactly how to engage someone in the middle of real bodily, psychological, and social suffering: with compassion first, truth kept intact, and restoration as the goal. This message also points to something that reframes the whole conversation: your ultimate identity isn't self-authored or discovered from within. It is received. Hidden in Christ. And that is a more secure foundation than anything we could construct on our own. The question this sermon leaves us with is personal: are we willing to let someone come to us from the edges of the crowd, reach out, and have us turn around? Not to condemn or shame, but to love the way Jesus loved. We can be technically right and relationally useless. This message calls us to be both truthful and genuinely kind. 🌐 Website: www.fairfieldbaptist.com 📺 Watch more sermons: fairfieldbaptist.com/sermons 📱 Follow us on Facebook: @fairfieldbaptistcypress 📸 Follow us on Instagram: @fairfieldbaptistcypress
