The Princess and the Pea — A Storm, a Stranger, and One Green Pea | Andersen by Candlelight

A prince rides the whole world over looking for a princess who is real all the way through, and comes home with nothing but doubt. Then a storm breaks over the kingdom, and someone knocks at the town gate at the darkest hour of the night. What waits for her upstairs is one small green pea, twenty mattresses, and twenty eiderdowns of snow-white down. Hans Christian Andersen's strangest little test, retold slowly for a long evening, with candlelight and rain on the glass.
