Monday morning on Westminster Bridge, who could arrange such a thing? The one and only Gem O’Reilly! 😂 Always happy to see Gem, even when the rest of London is still negotiating with its alarm clock.
This time, we were talking about something that really matters: bus stop bypasses and the dangers they pose to Blind and Disabled people.
Later that day, I was back in Westminster with a group of campaigners and representatives from the National Federation of the Blind of the UK (@NFBUK), delivering a petition to 10 Downing Street. Because when our voices aren’t being heard, sometimes you have to take the message right to the front door of Number 10!
This radio feature also includes an interview with Sarah Gayton, who organised the petition, as well as a representative from Transport for London (TfL), bringing different perspectives into a conversation that cannot be ignored.
Accessible transport isn’t a luxury. Blind and Disabled people have the right to travel safely, independently and with dignity. We shouldn’t have to put our safety on the line just to catch a bus.
From an early-morning chat on Westminster Bridge to delivering a petition to the Prime Minister’s front door, Monday was a reminder that campaigning doesn’t stop when the microphone goes off.
Give it a listen, share it around, and let’s keep this conversation moving. Because our streets and public transport must work for everyone, not just some of us.
