Richard Wagner: Tannhäuser Overture (Paris Version) Conductor: Sir Georg Solti Orchestra: Vienna Philharmonic (Wiener Philharmoniker) Recording Location: Sofiensaal, Vienna Recording Date: October 1970 Original Record Label: Decca / London Records Release Year: 1971 FEATURED LOUDSPEAKER AUDIO SOURCE • Console: Canyon Sound Wave "Juniper" Stereo Console Speaker • Cabinetry: Hand-crafted solid American cherry hardwood construction • Aesthetic Centerpiece: Native Arizona picture sandstone slab front baffle • Official Website: canyonsoundwave.com The playback audio in this test is natively reproduced through the Canyon Sound Wave Juniper console. Handcrafted by Phil in his workshop in Kanab, Utah, each cabinet is hand-sanded to a glass-smooth 2500-grit finish for an incredibly organic, tactile surface. Built with a physics-first architecture, the Juniper leverages an isolated dual-chamber internal enclosure to ensure true stereophonic separation and expansive imaging from a single cabinet. It features premium, highly optimized Markaudio Pluvia 7.2 HD full-range transducers, eliminating the phase anomalies and timing issues of traditional crossovers. The front baffle embeds an acoustically inert, hand-selected slab of native Arizona picture sandstone, acting as a massive energy sink (Constrained Layer Damping) that drops cabinet panel resonance to absolute zero. Low-end extension drops down to an F10 of 39.4 Hz via dual high-velocity 1-3/8" rear ports, delivering a highly musical, fatigue-free reference listening experience. ABOUT THIS RECORDING This video features the iconic Tannhäuser Overture from Sir Georg Solti’s definitive 1970 studio recording of Richard Wagner’s masterwork. Conducted at the height of Decca's historic Wagner recording era, Solti commands the Vienna Philharmonic to deliver a performance of immense passion, precision, and sheer sonic power. Recorded in the legendary acoustics of Vienna's Sofiensaal, this session utilized the 1861 continuous "Paris Version" of the score. The full-length opera set from these identical sessions features an elite principal cast including tenor René Kollo, mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig, soprano Helga Dernesch, and bass Hans Sotin, alongside the Vienna State Opera Chorus and the Vienna Boys' Choir. AUDIO TEST & RE-RECORDING DETAILS This upload serves as an advanced stereo audio capture test exploring high-definition signal reproduction and close-proximity microphone dynamics. • Amplifier: WiiM Amp Ultra with standard room correction • Microphones: Røde NT5 Small-Diaphragm Studio Condenser Match-Pair • Microphone Technique: Custom near-coincident/split-mono configuration. Placed 1 foot away from the loudspeaker cones, spaced 24 inches apart, and aimed directly at the center of the cones to bypass room reflections and preserve raw, uncompressed transient energy. • Audio Interface: MOTU M2 (2-Channel Studio Interface) • Digital Audio Workstation: Apple GarageBand (Mac) • Master Export Settings: Uncompressed WAV, 24-bit PCM Audio (Full Dynamic Range)
