Faustino “𝘐𝘧 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘴... 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘴 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵... 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩.” - 𝗜 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝟱:𝟳–𝟴 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗫𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗚𝗘 In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul addressed a serious problem in the church in Corinth. There was sexual immorality among them, but instead of dealing with the sin, the church became proud of their acceptance of it. Paul used the picture of leaven or yeast to explain how unaddressed sin can spread. Just as a little yeast affects the whole batch of dough, sin that is tolerated can also affect the whole community. 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 — 𝗝𝗢𝗛𝗡 𝟲:𝟰𝟴 Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” Our new life is found in Christ, who gives us true spiritual life and sustains us. 𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗦: 𝟭. 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗯 (Verse 7): Christ gave Himself as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Because of His sacrifice, we are set free from the power and penalty of sin. 𝟮. 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻 (Verse 7): We are called to remove the old sinful habits, attitudes, and ways that no longer belong in our lives. Just as the Israelites removed yeast before Passover, we must also be willing to let go of what pulls us away from God. 𝟯. 𝗔𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 (Verse 7): This speaks of our new identity in Christ. Since Christ has redeemed us, our lives should reflect who we are now. Our actions should match the new life God has given us. 𝟰. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 (Verse 8): We are called to live in this new life continually, choosing sincerity and truth instead of malice and wickedness. 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗗 — 𝗝𝗢𝗛𝗡 𝟯:𝟯, 𝟱, 𝟳 Jesus taught that 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻. This is not about becoming a different biological “breed,” but about experiencing a spiritual transformation through Christ and the Holy Spirit. A 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱 is 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵-𝘭𝘦𝘥—not controlled by our old nature, but guided by the Holy Spirit. 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗧-𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 — 𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝟴:𝟭𝟰 Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 𝗙𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗧 — 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝟱:𝟮𝟮–𝟮𝟯 The fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—should be seen in the life of someone who is being led by the Holy Spirit. 𝗔 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗢𝗡 — 𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗘𝗟 𝟮:𝟮𝟭 God changes times and seasons and gives wisdom and understanding to those who seek Him. Being a 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗗 means leaving behind the old ways and choosing to live differently because of what Christ has done in us. 𝗠𝗔𝗬 𝗪𝗘 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗, 𝗪𝗔𝗟𝗞 𝗜𝗡 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧, 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗦 𝗔 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗗—𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗬 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗧.
