Brown Bears of Lake Clark National Park #alaska #grizzly

Beautiful Huge Brown Bears... ....living on the coast of southern Alaska. A group of friends including Susan McConnell and Bill Dally, guided by Belle Joeckel, visited Coastal Brown Bears in Lake Clark National Park & Preserve in Alaska some years ago in late June. It happened to be a period of exceptionally hot weather. The bears were looking for ways to cool off, and were grazing on sedges and roots. They largely ignored the photographers, and were spectacular to see at close hand. For those of us from central California, it was poignant to envision a time not so long ago when Brown Bears were numerous along our coast. The last Californian grizzly, our state animal, was shot in 1922. #brownbear #lakeclarknationalpark #alaska #grizzlies #eagles #baldeagle
