Accused Uncle Was Saving Niece, Not Assaulting Her: Defense

As the trial against David Prevatte began on Thursday morning, the defense opened by insisting that Prevatte did not sexually assault or murder his 5-year-old niece, arguing that the evidence will show he was trying to save her life. Attorneys told jurors Prevatte carried Paitin to the hospital and was covered in her urine and feces, offering that as an explanation for the DNA mixture later found on his clothing. The defense also argued Prevatte quickly became the sole suspect and that early DNA testing only showed a mixture of his and Paitin’s DNA.
