Teaching myself copperplate calligraphy — Session 6: the letter N

Copperplate calligraphy is my arch nemesis, and I've decided to learn it anyway — badly, slowly, and out loud. This isn't a tutorial channel. I'm not here to teach you calligraphy — I'm a beginner teaching myself, one letter at a time, and this is just me sharing that process: the practice, not polished results. If most of the calligraphy content you've seen is from people who've already mastered it, this is the other side — the smudges, the wobbly strokes, the slow figuring-it-out. This session flipped my usual pattern — normally the lowercase gives me more trouble, but with N it was the uppercase that was problematic, specifically the starting stroke: either the thickness stayed flat the whole way through, or there was contrast but not enough of it. There's a shape in there I actually like, with an angle that works, but overall I'm not happy with the uppercase as a set. Lowercase went better — breathing out on every downward stroke helped more than expected, almost like a breathing exercise, and the last few n's started finding a rhythm where the angles and thick/thin contrast actually matched. That's the kind of consistency I want to chase more of going forward. Calming background music runs through it as usual, so feel free to just put it on and let it run if that's more your speed. This channel started after a rough year, as a way to begin something again. More practice sessions coming as I work through more letters — not in alphabetical order, so don't be thrown by the jumps. If you're up for watching someone fail at something on purpose, stick around. 00:00 Intro 00:15 Practice 10:45 Reflection Music: 'Horizon' by Christopher Galovan on #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/c/christopher-galovan License code: PZI1UQJP76R1Z2VI Music: 'Foresight' by Christopher Galovan on #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/c/christopher-galovan License code: 4FUBE88ZYVCJGAUT Music: 'Inhale Exhale' by Christopher Galovan on #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/c/christopher-galovan License code: KZLP1RBA2I0T0KVH #copperplatecalligraphy #calligraphypractice #beginnercalligraphy
