R. Javoyne Hicks, Esq.: The Mission Behind Georgia’s Next State Bar President | The 2026 RICE Awards

Javoyne Hicks, Esq., President-Elect of the State Bar of Georgia and a 2026 Torch Award honoree at the 16th Annual RICE Awards. Her acceptance speech offers a powerful look at the purpose behind her leadership: opening doors, strengthening others, and making sure people know they matter. An accomplished attorney, public servant, executive leadership coach, and certified mediator, Hicks brings experience that spans prosecution, judicial service, court administration, and professional development. Her career includes service as Acting District Attorney in DeKalb County and as an associate magistrate, and she is the CEO of Magnifying Synergy. Through her work advancing lawyer wellbeing, she has helped bring greater attention to the people behind the profession—and the support they need to thrive. In this moving speech, Hicks discusses preparing to lead approximately 55,000 State Bar members, her service as interim court administrator for Atlanta’s Municipal Court, and the deeply personal experience that shaped her commitment to attorney wellness. After losing her husband to suicide more than 20 years ago, she resolved to help build a legal profession in which asking for help is recognized as a sign of strength.
