Cycling to Palmyra

Today, I am cycling to Palmyra. Palmyra is one of the most spectacular ancient cities in the world. Located in the Syrian desert, Palmyra became rich through the caravan trade. Around the first and second century AD, the city experienced its greatest wealth. Extraordinary temples and streets, theaters and mausoleums were built. However, not only ancient history can be seen in Palmyra. The Islamic State terrorist group, in summer 2015, committed some of the worst crimes against world heritage sites to date, and destroyed some of Palmyras greatest treasures. What is it like cycle to Palmyra? And how much of this extraordinary site remains in 2026?
