Yes, it had to happen. Hyperion, one of the glories of the classical music universe, has had a misstep or two, and its series of Spohr symphonies is surely one of those--especially when it was made simultaneously with another, better one on CPO. The music is only mediocre, and one very fine cycle is more than sufficient.
