Trucking and Trucker's Rights | The Truck Stop Show
He started as a truck driver. He became a truck owner. Then he walked away from it all to fight for drivers’ rights.
What happens when a truck driver realizes the system he works in may be working against him?
In this episode of The Truck Stop Show, we’re talking about Trucking and Trucker's Rights with a man who has spent decades fighting for the people behind the wheel.
He shares his personal journey through the trucking industry, from experiencing what he believes were unfair practices by carriers to owning a couple of trucks, watching depreciation eat away at their value, and eventually selling them all to dedicate himself to fighting for drivers’ rights.
We get into the hard realities many drivers face, including lease programs that can leave drivers struggling financially, new drivers entering an industry without fully understanding what they’re signing up for, and the expectation that drivers should perform work for free.
But that’s not all.
What really happens when a driver says NO to a load?
Drivers have the right to refuse a load they believe isn’t worth taking. But as our guest explains, the consequences may not always come in the form of being fired. Sometimes, the work simply dries up. Drivers may find themselves pushed to the bottom of the list, offered less desirable loads, or left sitting at home waiting for work.
And when the pay cheque stops coming, many drivers eventually walk away on their own.
Is this a loophole in the system? How much protection do drivers really have? And who takes responsibility when a driver is willing to work but isn’t being offered loads that make financial sense?
These are the questions that need to be asked.
Our guest explains why he believes the trucking system sets up both new drivers and lease operators to struggle, what he experienced firsthand, and why he decided that fighting for drivers’ rights was more important than continuing to own trucks.
After decades in this fight, one thing remains clear: the fight for truck drivers’ rights is far from over.
This is a conversation about the business behind trucking, the challenges drivers face, and the people who are standing up to demand fair treatment.
Because trucking isn’t just about moving freight. It’s about the people who keep the industry moving.
