Why is my child so angry, anxious, restless, reactive, or disrespectful? As parents, we often look for the cause outside - social media, friends, school, screens, or the world around them. But sometimes, the first place we need to look is much closer: the emotional environment we create at home. In this video, I talk about how children learn emotional regulation not simply from what we tell them, but from what they repeatedly see us do. If I shout, panic, blame, react impulsively, or bring unresolved stress into the home, my child is watching and learning from those patterns. Children do not need perfect parents, but they do need parents who are willing to become more emotionally aware and regulated. I also explore why harshness should not be confused with authority, why reacting only to a child’s behaviour can make us miss the need behind it, and why strong routines, clear boundaries, consistency, and role modelling can often be more effective than control or aggression. The biggest shift begins with us. Before asking our children to be calm, patient, respectful, disciplined, or emotionally strong, we need to look at how we demonstrate those qualities ourselves. A home should be a place where children feel emotionally safe enough to grow, make mistakes, communicate, and learn how to handle difficult emotions without being ruled by them. If you are a parent who wants to build a healthier relationship with your child and create a more conscious emotional environment at home, I hope this conversation gives you something meaningful to reflect on and practice. #ParentShift #ConsciousParenting #Parenting #EmotionalRegulation #ParentingTips #PositiveParenting #ChildPsychology #EmotionalIntelligence #MentalHealth #ParentChildRelationship #MindfulParenting #GentleParenting #ParentingAdvice #RaisingChildren #HealthyParenting
