‪@bluehoundsjazz‬ 🇯🇵 *TOKYO KISSA JAZZ ☕ | Japanese Jazz Café, Late Night Vinyl & Blue Hounds Jazz* Step into a hidden jazz café in Tokyo, where the coffee is strong, the lights are low, and the records play long after midnight. ☕🎷 Welcome to **Tokyo Kissa Jazz**, a late-night journey inspired by Japan's legendary jazz listening cafés, the smoky atmosphere of vintage record bars, and the timeless sound of saxophones, piano, trumpet, double bass and drums. Put the kettle on, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and let the music take you into another time and place. 🎼 *THE HISTORY BEHIND THE SOUND | JAPAN'S JAZZ KISSA CULTURE* Japan's relationship with jazz began in the early 20th century, as jazz records and Western popular music travelled across the Pacific. By the late 1920s, music cafés known as ongaku kissa had begun to emerge, creating dedicated spaces for listening to recorded music. After the Second World War, the jazz kissa became an essential part of Japan's musical culture. During the 1950s and 1960s, imported jazz records were expensive and difficult for many listeners to obtain. These intimate cafés offered something extraordinary: the opportunity to discover entire records through carefully selected collections and high-quality sound systems. In Tokyo, particularly in neighbourhoods such as Shinjuku, jazz cafés became sanctuaries for musicians, students, record collectors and devoted listeners. Some cultivated a quiet atmosphere in which the music took centre stage. Others became meeting places for the city's restless artistic and intellectual communities. During the 1960s and 1970s, Japanese jazz culture developed its own character, embracing American modern jazz while encouraging Japanese musicians and audiences to explore new musical ideas. The spirit of the jazz kissa lives on in this session: a place for deep listening, warm analogue textures, midnight reflections and the quiet pleasure of discovering another record. 🎧 *ABOUT THIS SESSION* Tokyo Kissa Jazz is an original musical journey inspired by the atmosphere and listening culture of Japan's jazz cafés. Moving between mellow piano passages, expressive saxophone lines, brass-led arrangements and deeper late-night grooves, this collection explores different shades of vintage jazz. These are contemporary original compositions inspired by a historical musical setting, not archival recordings from the 1960s. ☕ Perfect for: • Working, studying and creative projects • Reading, writing and painting • Slow mornings and afternoon coffee • Cooking and relaxing at home • Late-night listening and rainy city evenings • Anyone who loves Japanese jazz culture, vintage records and intimate jazz cafés 🎶 *TRACKLIST & TIMESTAMPS* 00:00 Blue Lanterns of Tokyo - 2 05:00 Blue Lanterns of Tokyo - 1 10:06 Shinjuku After Dark - 5 15:10 Shinjuku After Dark - 2 20:13 Shinjuku After Dark - 4 25:17 Smoke and Brass 30:23 The Kissa Quartet 35:26 The Kissa Quartet - 3 40:31 The Kissa Quartet - 2 45:37 Tokyo Blue Train 50:43 Tokyo Blue Train - 2 55:30 Blue Note Alley 1:00:56 Blue Note Alley - 3 1:05:59 Blue Note Alley - 2 1:11:07 Blue Hounds at 2 AM 1:16:14 Blue Hounds at 2 AM - 2 1:21:20 Midnight Vibraphone 1:26:00 Last Record Before Dawn 1:31:00 Vinyl Smoke - 1 1:36:00 Vinyl Smoke - 2 1:41:00 The Pianist's Ashtray 1:46:00 The Last Train Home 1:51:00 Rain on Shinjuku - 2 1:56:00 Shinjuku After Dark - 3 🐾 *BLUE HOUNDS JAZZ* The Blue Hounds have travelled through time to bring you the sounds of another place, another era, another night of jazz.
