Rosie Sherry and Simon Tomes open this week’s This Week in Community by reflecting on their week. Rosie shares how she invited 25 MoTaCon attendees onto the Into the MoTaverse podcast in two hours, with an eye on new and diverse voices. Simon describes pairing members up to lead their own Call for Insights conversations. That leads into community as a service, and how to help members see the whole community rather than one corner, and see that their contributions support others too.
The hosts also imagine a “good community looks like...” statement that, unlike the Agile Manifesto, keeps evolving and brings in diverse voices. Nicola Earle joins the stage to share her framework for aligning community work with business OKRs. The conversation then turns to running shows and programmes in seasons, and why six-month commitments might feel lighter than a year.
From there, the three explore community across generations, the assumptions made about young people and elders alike, and what each can learn from the other. Rosie and Simon close on the role of joy, creativity, and play, non-transactional gifting from snack tables to handmade bracelets, and leading by example by planting seeds.
