Our journey begins with the famous Periyar Lake boating, one of the main attractions of Thekkady. As we cruised through the reservoir surrounded by forest, we were lucky to spot many Sambar Deer, Indian Gaur, Great Cormorant, a Barking Deer and two Stripe-necked Mongooses along the lakeshore. We then stayed at Bamboo Grove, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Periyar landscape. The stay also gave us a wonderful opportunity for birdwatching, where we spotted Malabar Parakeet, White-cheeked Barbet, Malabar Flycatcher and several other birds. The following day, we explored the forest on the Periyar Green Walk, an immersive walking experience that allows you to observe the forest ecosystem at a slower pace and discover wildlife and birds along the trail. During our Green Walk, we spotted an Indian Gaur and several beautiful birds, including Malabar Grey Hornbill, Serpent Eagle and White-bellied Flycatcher. From wildlife along the Periyar Lake to birdwatching at Bamboo Grove and exploring the forest on foot, this was a memorable Periyar Tiger Reserve wildlife experience.
