Whereas, a knife threat in this scenario is relatively simple compared to a more realistic scenario! In the following videos, we will analyze it as well, when for the second scenario the solution is not simple, and the chance of survival in it is very low. Let's go back to our scenario, where the attacker stands in front of the victim and threatens with the knife. When in this scenario: the attacker does not move, and the knife does not move. On the other hand, if the attacker passively participates in the attack, i.e. does not push, does not hit, it may be stretched forward. That is, a scenario for study purposes only! For initial lessons in contact combat and self-defense. Not a realistic scenario. But it's still a knife! And the attacker holds it! And threatening! That is, as far as he is concerned, he is ready for action! When I say he is ready for action, what does that mean? He is focused on menace, and holds a knife tight! According to what I described to you, is it possible to perform knife disarming using these videos? If so, then what is the chance of success? And in addition, what is the risk of performing this exercise? What are the built-in and controllable risks of self-defense exercises? In my article which I will attach below, I refer to the two levels of risk that exist in the technical execution of one exercise or another, built-in risk and risk in control. When they both, together create a general level of risk for survival in an assault event. We assume that the more complex the exercise, the higher the overall risk of survival. The goal is to reduce it! The following are the main definitions and differences between built-in risk and controlled risk: Built-in risk - is the natural level of risk inherent in the process of performing a particular exercise, which cannot be reduced, no matter who performs it and at what level the exercise will be performed! That is, it is a minimal risk of injury that an average-skilled person expects when performing one exercise or another. Controllable risk - is the probability that can be controlled through many repetitions of the exercise in appropriate groups; In a realistic and appropriate method of self-defense; Through realistic scenarios and appropriate psychological preparation, etc. In this video, we will compare a KALAH against Krav Maga, on the subject of a frontal knife threat. When, our goal is not to say which is better, but to show the advantages and disadvantages of each method. The KALAH method is characterized by control over the attacking arm, while pure Krav-Maga is characterized by control over the wrist and neutralizing blows at weak points. To assess the built-in risk in a Krav Maga exercise, we will refer to the fact that disarming a knife from an attacker who is under the influence of adrenaline, and determined to act is impossible by performing a blow to the wrist, and a first test proves this. That is, the built-in risk of surviving the exercise is high and tends to infinity, while the chance of success tends to 0. Regarding controllable risk, no matter how many times you do it and practice it, the risk of failure cannot be reduced because the built-in risk is very high! The second part of the test refers to the case where the victim performs a tilt of the attacking hand with the knife and at the same time a neutralizing blow. Checked Built-in risk, it is not possible to perform this exercise because the attacker's immediate reaction is a quick movement and pulling his hand back and performing a frequent stab. When the built-in risk for survival even in this exercise aspires to infinity because it is a fact that stab wounds will kill the victim. That means the chance of success tends to be 0.
