DESCRIPTION This Is How Slave Auctions Were Conducted in the United States of America — How Enslaved People Were Sold in America Before the American Civil War, slavery was deeply embedded in the legal, economic, and social structure of the United States. Enslaved people were treated as property under laws that allowed their forced sale, transportation, and transfer between owners. This historical documentary examines how slave auctions and other forms of slave sales operated in the United States, particularly during the nineteenth century. We explore how enslaved people were brought to markets, how advertisements and legal documents were used, how auctioneers and buyers participated in transactions, and how prices, occupations, age, family relationships, and labor capacity could influence their valuation. The documentary also examines major centers of the domestic slave trade, including **New Orleans, Richmond, Charleston, and Alexandria**, as well as the transportation networks that connected cities, plantations, farms, and markets across the American South. Beyond the auction itself, this film examines one of the most devastating consequences of the system: the separation of families. Parents, children, husbands, wives, and entire communities could be affected by sales, inheritance, debt, and forced migration. Historical advertisements, legal records, financial documents, and other surviving sources help historians reconstruct how this system functioned. At the same time, the documentary recognizes the limitations of surviving records and avoids inventing dialogue, personal experiences, or undocumented events. The story also explores resistance, survival, family preservation, and the humanity of the people who endured slavery. Finally, we examine the political conflict that intensified during the nineteenth century, the Civil War, emancipation, and the abolition of slavery through the **Thirteenth Amendment in 1865**. This is not a story about numbers or transactions alone. Behind every document, advertisement, and sale was a human life. Watch until the end to understand how the system operated and why its legacy remains an essential part of American history.
