My Thoughts On The Song/Chart: I previously made a video covering this song before ‪@TBRBCDLC‬ made their own version, i have since edited the original video to include the subtitle "Shea" to indicate it's difference. A folksy / almost country like ballad from 1964's "Beatles For Sale" i've always enjoyed listening to this track especially some of the live renditions of it. Unlike the previous version, this version's venue takes place at Nippon Budokan but i'f i'm not mistaken, it was played at both venues historically so both venues work for this song. It appears on the United Kingdom album Beatles for Sale and on the United States album Beatles '65, both released in 1964. "Baby's in Black" is performed at a 68 time signature, typical of a waltz with a moderate tempo. An AllMusic critic described the song as "a love lament for a grieving girl that was perhaps more morose than any previous Beatles' song." Musicologist Alan W. Pollack notes that the song is relatively complex in format, with a refrain, bridge, and a guitar solo. He describes the song as having "mishmash" of stylistic elements—among them, "bluesy" chords and country music-inspired vocals. The Beatles performed "Baby's in Black" live during their appearances from late 1964 until 1966 on their final tour. McCartney said they introduced the song by saying, "'And now for something different.' ... We used to put that in there, and think, 'Well, they won't know quite what to make of this, but it's cool.'" In 1996, a live version of "Baby's in Black" was released as a B-side to "Real Love", the second single from their Anthology project. It has been speculated that the song is about Astrid Kirchherr, the German photographer and artist whom The Beatles befriended in Hamburg. She was engaged to The Beatles’ first bass guitarist, Stuart Sutcliffe, who died of a brain haemorrhage in April 1962. Astrid herself would pass away in 2020.
