In this Blender beginner tutorial, we model a pumpkin using basic mesh manipulation, reference images, and a simple planning sketch. We start by looking at photos and in-game references, then create an informative sketch to use as a blueprint. The goal is to understand the shapes we need to model—you don’t need a polished drawing! We’ll cover: • Dragging and dropping a reference sketch into Blender to keep it visible while modeling • Starting with a sphere and selecting every other segment • Scaling along the X and Y axes while leaving Z unchanged • Moving rings of vertices to create the pumpkin’s dimples • Applying smooth shading • Using the Simple Deform modifier to create variations Follow along to practise working from references and turning a simple mesh into a recognisable object.
