Beaton's Agatha Raisin novels. The story picks up in the seemingly idyllic Cotswold village of Carsely, which is still reeling from a recent murder. In an attempt to lift spirits and restore a sense of normalcy, the villagers decide to hold a fete, complete with quirky activities like duck racing and Morris dancing. However, the village's attempt at cheer is overshadowed by the fact that the killer is still at large. Agatha Raisin, ever the amateur sleuth, finds herself drawn into the investigation once again. With her usual blend of determination, wit, and often misguided social attempts, Agatha navigates the eccentricities of village life and the dangers of a murderer in their midst, all while trying to clear her friend's name and perhaps, just perhaps, get a little closer to her handsome neighbor, James Lacey. The "duck and cover" title likely refers to the village's somewhat chaotic and perhaps a bit naive attempts to deal with the unsettling events unfolding around them.
