Missouri is undertaking one of the most ambitious highway reconstruction projects in the state’s history: rebuilding nearly 200 miles of Interstate 70 as part of a multibillion-dollar effort to modernize one of America’s major east-west freight corridors. But this project is about far more than adding lanes. Engineers are replacing aging pavement, rebuilding bridges and interchanges, improving drainage, expanding shoulders, upgrading truck parking, and using modern construction technology to create a highway designed to handle decades of future traffic. One of the most unusual techniques involves breaking apart sections of the old concrete pavement and using the fractured material as part of the foundation for the new roadway. Crews are also using thick concrete slabs, dowel bars, wireless concrete sensors, precision positioning systems, digital construction models, and advanced slipform paving equipment. The project also includes major bridge work at the Missouri River, improvements around St. Louis, new interchange designs, and infrastructure that could support increasingly connected and autonomous freight vehicles. Why rebuild so much highway at once instead of spreading the work across decades? And what happens when America's oldest interstate corridors are redesigned for the next generation of transportation? This is the engineering story behind Missouri’s massive I-70 transformation. This video is for educational, documentary, and engineering-analysis purposes. Project costs, construction schedules, traffic figures, engineering specifications, completion dates, and future applications may change as construction progresses. Some figures are rounded or simplified for explanation. #Infrastructure #Engineering #Highway #Missouri #Construction
