The cavewoman stayed home, gathered berries, and waited for the men to bring dinner. It's one of the most repeated "facts" about prehistory, and the evidence keeps pointing the other way.
In this video: where the housewife image actually came from, and why it says more about the 1960s than the Stone Age... the 9,000-year-old grave in the Andes where a teenage girl was buried with a complete big-game hunting toolkit... what researchers found when they surveyed modern hunter-gatherer societies, and how many of them have women who hunt... why the old "men hunt, women gather" split was a story first and a measurement second... and the practical reason a small band could never afford to leave half its members out of the hunt.
We also stay honest about what the evidence can't tell us. Not every society was the same, and burials are only a small window. But the picture that comes out is far more interesting than the myth: a world where survival mattered more than roles, and where capable people did what the day required.
Your ancestors weren't following a script. Someone invented the script later.
