"Ancient humans died at 30." You've heard it in school, in documentaries, and in a thousand comment sections. It's one of the most repeated facts about the past, and it's built on a misunderstanding of one word: average. In this video: how a life expectancy of 30 can be true on paper while almost nobody actually died at 30... why the deaths of so many babies and young children drag the average down so far... what researchers found when they studied living hunter-gatherer groups, and the age that adults who got through childhood most often reached... the surprising role of grandmothers and elders in keeping ancient bands alive, and the theory about why humans live long after they stop having children... the old skeletons that show people surviving into their later years, sometimes with injuries that someone else had to care for... and why the myth is so comfortable that modern people keep repeating it. We stay honest about the hard part. Childhood was dangerous, medicine didn't exist, and plenty of people died young. But "many children died" and "adults were old at 30" are two very different claims, and only one of them is true. Your ancestors weren't ancient at 30. They were just getting started. 💬 What's the biggest "fact" about the past you believed until you found out it was wrong? Tell me below. 🔔 Subscribe.
