His own company never looked for him. He crawled off Everest alone.

On 29 May 2026, a Nepali high-altitude worker named Hillary Dawa Sherpa was separated from his expedition high on Mount Everest. The same day, the icefall team pulled the ladders out of the Khumbu Icefall — the formal end of the route. Six days later a rubbish-collection team found him crawling down the glacier, with a broken femur, frostbite in both hands, and no food, water or oxygen.
