In Part 4 of our DC-6 maintenance series, we take you deep inside one of the most complex and critical procedures: the complete propeller change on engine No. 2.
Follow our team as they service the de-ice brush block, assemble a replacement propeller, and carry out the full installation process. From careful inspection and compliance checks to precision assembly and torque procedures, every step is performed according to strict standards and verified through independent inspections.
✈️ What’s in this episode:
• Propeller unboxing, inspection, and AD compliance checks
• Step-by-step assembly: spider, barrel supports, seals, and blades
• Blade installation, torque procedures, and slip ring setup
• Removal of the existing propeller using sling and hoist
• Installation and torquing of the replacement propeller
• Functional checks, dome installation, and leak testing
Beyond the propeller work, we also cover:
• Servicing all 144 spark plugs
• Detailed inspection, cleaning, testing, and re-gapping
• Landing gear operational check and lubrication
• Minor paint work and finishing touches
• Aircraft preparation and ground run
After 3 months, 190 findings, and over 3,000 manhours, the aircraft goes for its post-maintenance ground run. Watch as the team tests the engines at operational power and confirms that all systems including the newly installed propeller perform exactly as expected.
✅ Result: Successful ground run and final leak check with zero findings.
The aircraft is now ready for the next step… the check flight in Part 5!
