A Colorful Display on New York’s Metro-North Hudson Line

Autumn in New York's Lower-Hudson region is something special, and there's no better time to get out and enjoy the scenery and the railroads that call this region home! Today we're heading to the east side of the river for a beautiful fall day along Metro-North's Hudson Line. From Manitou to Scarborough, we explore one of the most scenic commuter rail corridors in the eastern United States, with the spectacular Hudson Highlands providing a backdrop for a steady parade of passenger trains. Along the way, we catch Metro-North's GE Genesis P32AC-DM locomotives, the increasingly common Siemens Charger replacements, and the familiar M7A electric multiple units. We also take a closer look at the railroad's electric operations, the transition to diesel territory north of Croton-Harmon, and the important role this historic former New York Central Water Level Route continues to play. We finish the afternoon at Scarborough Station, where the Hudson River opens up into a breathtaking panorama and Metro-North's electric commuter traffic keeps the railroad moving. With sailboats enjoying the autumn breeze and trains racing along the shoreline, it's hard to imagine a better place to spend the afternoon. We even get a glimpse of one of Metro-North's commemorative locomotives honoring those who served and remembering September 11th, 2001.
